Pancreatic Surgery
The pancreas is one of the most important human organs that has complex effects on human health. Among its main functions are digestive (it secretes enzymes necessary for normal digestion) and endocrine (it secretes insulin and glucagon). The variety of surgeries performed on this organ includes:
- Removal of neoplasms by blunt method (called excision);
- Resection of the gland’s tail or body (partial removal of individual sections of the gland);
- Pancreaticoduodenal resection (removal of the head and part of the 12th colon);
- Pancreatectomy (complete removal of the pancreas).
It is important to understand that after the removal of the pancreas, the patient will need to take therapy to replenish the necessary amount of enzymes and hormones that are secreted on a permanent basis. In some cases, transplantation of the pancreas can also be performed, but it is almost impossible in Ukraine due to the legal framework.
