Minor, outpatient surgery
Ambulatory surgery includes a list of surgical procedures that do not require a long hospital stay. Usually, all these operations are quick and the patient spends the whole postoperative period at home, with only occasional visits to the surgeon for bandaging and check-ups.
Minor surgery includes the following types of surgical operations:
- Removal of varicose knots, veins and spider veins;
- Treating wounds caused by trauma, burns and frostbite;
- Removal of fungus or ingrown nail plates;
- Opening and draining of purulent skin diseases (furuncles, abscesses, carbuncles);
- Removal of small neoplasms on the skin (e.g. lipomas or athemae);
- Application of a variety of minimally invasive techniques for haemorrhoids, anal fissures and paraproctitis; etc.
The main distinguishing feature of minor surgical interventions is that the likelihood of any serious side effects following them is minimal. It is this fact that allows the patient to be sent home almost immediately after the surgical intervention has been carried out.
